Construction Materials Testing (CMT)

Confidence in every pour, every lift, every layer.

What Is Construction Materials Testing?

Construction materials testing is the process of sampling, testing, and evaluating the materials used during construction to verify they meet project specifications and applicable standards. From the soil beneath a foundation to the concrete in a column, CMT ensures that what goes into the project performs the way it was designed to.

Why It Matters

Materials that don’t meet specifications can lead to structural deficiencies, premature deterioration, and costly repairs. CMT catches problems in real time, while corrections can still be made in the field. It protects the owner’s investment, supports the design team’s intent, and gives contractors documented verification that their work meets the standard.

What We Do

LOI provides comprehensive materials testing and engineering support across all major construction disciplines, including:

  • Soil and aggregate field density testing
  • Concrete, grout, and masonry testing
  • Asphalt mix testing and verification
  • Structural steel observations
  • Laboratory testing following ASTM and AASHTO standards
  • Field technician support throughout construction phases

Additional Capabilities

  • Quality control monitoring and inspections
  • Certified in-house welding inspections
  • Seismic refraction and electrical resistivity testing
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Subsurface exploration using CME-75, hollow/solid stem auger, air rotary, NX coring, and electrical resistivity methods

Our Process

Pre-Construction Review

We review project plans, specifications, and materials requirements to develop a testing program tailored to your project.

Field Testing and Sampling

Our technicians collect samples and perform on-site testing throughout active construction phases.

Laboratory Analysis

Samples are tested in our laboratory following ASTM and AASHTO standards for concrete, soils, asphalt, and aggregates.

Reporting and Engineering Support

Test results are documented and reviewed by our engineers, with prompt reporting to keep your project on schedule.
